I am looking to learn more about Judaism but I find on the internet there is just so much and I am looking for a book that focuses on the main most important parts of judaism. This could be a basic book but one also involving conversion because I am looking to find out more to potentially convert.

Honestly though, converts are treated like crap in jewish social circles.

I happen to know someone who is a member of Scientology, an organization calling itself officially a "church". Now, we all know that that is only a term they use for tax reasons, but still, wouldn’t that declaration alone make it a real transgression for an observant Jew to be a member?

Despite Scientologies claims to being compatable with Judaism- it is completely incompatable! Its beliefs are completely foreign to judaism and a bit of research will show them to eventually deny the existence of G-d (look up OT 8 or OT VIII You should be able to find it online somewhere). Hubbard pretty much tried to deify himself in the religion while bilking as much money as he could from his followers- the end result is that scientology IS Idolatry for a jew and completely forbidden to a Jew. I am well aware that the early materials seek to disguise this fact, as well as being aware that they claim it is compatable with all religions- but do your research and you find a completely different story!

(Yes, I was one of the critics they tried to spam out of existence in the early 1990s in alt.religion.scientology whats funniest about the whole internet critics vs Scientology saga is that if the Church hadn’t tried to shut down alt.religion.scientology and hadn’t been so aggressive in their attacks on critics on the web, then the critic movement probably would have died and never bothered them. However, one of the doctrines taught by Hubbard was to "attack and never defend"- all they did was follow their deities words and ended up creatign a huge nightmare for themselves.)

Your never usually hear from them during a political season, so I am just curious how does an Orthodox jew and muslim usually vote for?

I know the super basic things like Hanukkah and that they have bar-mitzvahs and stuff but could somebody go a little bit further? I’m Catholic, so I know what most christians believe but is it very similar to Judaism? Just wondering.

answer: actually Christian beliefs are very different than jewish beliefs.

JUDAISM/ISLAM
- says that no human can ever die for the sins of others
CHRISTIANITY
- says that Jesus died for the sins of mankind

JUDAISM
- says that all humans are born pure, and innocent
CHRISTIANITY
- some say that all humans are born with ‘original sin’.

judaism
- says that G-d would never allow/enable a ‘virgin birth’
CHRISTIANITY/ISLAM
- says that Mary gave birth, though a virgin

JUDAISM
- says that no man gets a ’second coming’
CHRISTIANITY/ISLAM
- says that Jesus will have a ’second coming’

JUDAISM/ISLAM
- says that every human should speak directly to G-d
CHRISTIANITY
- Jesus claims in the ‘new testament’ that the ‘only way’ to G-d is via him

- says G-d is one, indivisible, cannot be separated into three aspects/incarnations

All catholics are not Mel Gibson and all priests do not have sex with children. And adultery is not a part of catholic religion, like the jewish religion.
